World record holder Nele - Alder Baerens, 39, who won gold medals at different distances throughout her career, will represent Germany at 10 thousand meters and marathon in Samsun 2017.

TARGET IS TO SUCCESS AND PROMOTE TURKISH CULTURE

The German athlete, who stated that she came to Samsun with three goals which are to know Turkey, in addition to getting successful results in the sports that she will participate in Deaflympics 2017 and added: “I desire to experience the nature, the culture, the people, the lifestyle in Turkey, also to taste the typical Turkish foods. She also added that she wants to enjoy the atmosphere of Deaflympics, and also motivate other sportsmen to be proud their performances and celebrate with them.

“I HOPE I CAN HELP OTHERS"

Baerens is not just an athlete whose career is full of successes. She is also an academician who has completed his doctoral studies at Humboldt, one of Germany's most prominent universities. She also pointed out that her motivation for research is to increase my knowledge, to solve problems, to find missing-links in natural processes and said: "Because only if you understand how processes work how it functions then you can find a medicament against cancer or make improvements to solve problems. Baerens stated that when comparing being an athlete and academic, in sports you focus on yourself but in academics, you focus on open areas you can help human beings."

HER WISH IS TO SHAKE THE HAND OF THE MARATHON LEGEND

Baerens who broke the world record in "6h" race in Münster with a distance of 85,492 kilometers, dreams to meet another world record holder. The German athlete's greatest wish is to meet and shake hands with Ethiopian Haile Gebrselassie.

Nele Alder Baerens, who was awarded the 2016 World Best Female Athlete Award, will run at 10 thousand meters in marathon on July 24.
