Badminton is a racket sport like Tennis and is played with a shuttle. Badminton is supposed to derive from “Ti Jian Zi”, a ball game played among the Chinese in 5th century B.C. This game is considered as an ancestor of the Badminton. Another Badminton-like game is called “Poona” played among the Indian people in the mid-19th century. This game has a lot of similarities with modern Badminton and English military officiers started to play Poona in England in 1860. Badminton takes its name from “Badminton House” where the daughters of the Duke of Beauford first played Badminton. Afterwards, Badminton spread to various countries and gained momentum in 1934 thanks to the foundation of World Badminton Federation. In 1972, Badminton was the demonstration sport in the Munich Olympic Games and in 1988 Seul Olympic Games respectively. It was firstly in the official Sports list in the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992. Since 1934, China and Indonesia have been quite successful in Badminton. Turkish Badminton Federation established on 31st May 1991 and was granted full membership as 104th member by the Badminton World Federation on 3rd November 1991.
